The second-generation Apple Watch could ship as soon as April by Alice Truong

Apple is planning to take the wraps off the second-generation Apple Watch in March 2016, according to a new report from 9to5 Mac.

The blog’s Marc Gurman—who has gained a reputation for his scoops of the company—reports that the new watch could ship by April. This will surely be welcome news for the non-early adopters who’ve been waiting for Apple to iron out the kinks of its first smartwatch. (And that’s a sizable crowd: While Apple has not broken out sales of the Apple Watch, a Quartz analysis suggests it’s sold between 5 million and 6 million units so far.)

As many reviewers have noted, the Apple Watch still doesn’t feel like a polished product. Over at Fast Company, Joel Johnson has been warning consumers against buying the watch as a gift this holiday season, taking issue with the slow processor and lack of useful notifications. Quartz’ Dan Frommer, in his seven-month re-review, pointed out that most developers have yet to fully take advantage of the device’s features and interface. Ultimately, he believes that Apple should untether its smartwatch from the iPhone—or “it will never be more than a cute sidekick.”
